What is Artificial Intelligence?

Artificial intelligence (AI) is the simulation of human intelligence in machines that are programmed to perform tasks that typically require human intelligence. It is a broad field of computer science that focuses on creating intelligent systems that can perceive their environment, reason, learn, and make decisions.

Narrow AI

Narrow AI, also known as weak AI, is designed to perform specific tasks or solve specific problems. Examples of narrow AI include voice assistants like Siri and Alexa, recommendation systems, and autonomous vehicles.

General AI

General AI, also known as strong AI or AGI (Artificial General Intelligence), refers to AI systems that possess the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks and domains, similar to human intelligence. While significant progress has been made in narrow AI, achieving true general AI remains an ongoing research challenge.

AI techniques and technologies

  • machine learning – training algorithms to recognize patterns and make predictions based on data.
  • natural language processing (NLP) – enables machines to understand and process human language.
  • computer vision – allows machines to perceive and interpret visual information.
  • robotics – a combination of AI & physical systems to create intelligent machines that can interact with the physical world.

AI has applications in various fields such as healthcare, finance, manufacturing, transportation, and entertainment. It has the potential to automate repetitive tasks, enhance decision-making processes, improve efficiency, and contribute to scientific advancements. However, it also raises ethical and societal concerns, including privacy, bias, job displacement, and the impact on human autonomy.

It’s no surprise that AI has entered the hiring process and some companies are leaning into it, while others are a little wary. Do you have thoughts to share on AI and recruiting? Let us know!
